Dense, rounded flowerheads in shades of lilac, purple or red top upright stems giving this hardy perennial its common name. Native to China and the Himalayas, this plant thrives in damp shade and a moisture retentive soil but will happily grow in sunny positions too making it a very useful and versatile addition to the spring garden. Like all primula this is particularly effective when grown in big drifts. H&S 20-30cm
